Why this DNC Refuses to Release its 2024 Election Autopsy: The Inside Story.

This decision by the DNC to block the publication of its own autopsy report concerning the 2024 election appears remarkable but entirely predictable. Averse to frank assessments, the Democrats' governing body behaves closer to a PR firm than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating grassroots capacities to secure victories.

A Climate Resistant to Internal Critique

Hesitant to challenge the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed within the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Making public the findings could have demonstrated that the leadership actually want to foster open debate regarding the missteps which allowed the former president to return to the White House. Yet, the leadership is moving forward as if there is little to glean following the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: will this lead to victory? If not, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a rationale that has been offered for withholding the report.

Critical Problems an Autopsy Would Have Examined

Any valuable post-mortem worth its salt would not dodge a series of difficult topics. This encompasses:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Failing to retain of millions of voters that backed the Democratic ticket in 2020 became a critical factor during the tight 2024 election.
  • A Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined decision of the incumbent to seek re-election, coupled with a last-minute exit, is seen by some as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: During a time of rising costs, the electoral effort allegedly accommodating corporate donors' interests and not managing to challenge the impact of big business.
  • A Foreign Policy Effect: The failure to reconsider a policy position regarding the situation in Gaza allegedly caused losing key demographic groups, notably among youth voters, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Youth Backing: Extensive evidence demonstrates a significant decline in support for the party from voters aged 18-29.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy aligns with a pattern to avoid uncomfortable facts. This mirrors a situation in which the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's decision for running for re-election until a catastrophic campaign event forced a change.

Meanwhile, large majorities of the electorate had been consistently telling surveyors that they did not want the incumbent to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Issues

A substantive report would also examine issues regarding where money went, including how much money went to insider consultants as well as advertising contractors during a campaign that managed to spend a staggering sum over a few months.

The Underlying Problem

Ultimately, the secrecy surrounding this report points to an allegiance toward party leaders that oversaw a losing national race. The implication for rank-and-file members – including countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they do not have a right to know the lessons the insiders have learned based on a report drawing from extensive interviews.

An organization unwilling to critically review its mistakes will struggle to climb out of the cycle that proved so advantageous to the rival party.
