The vessels had been expected to reach Cuba's capital on the early part of the week, but there has been no communication from them and zero verification of their docking, the statement clarified.

Cuba has leaned on aid convoys from Mexico over the past few weeks, as the nation grapples with widespread national electricity failures.

"Both captains and crews are seasoned mariners, and both vessels are fitted with appropriate safety systems and emergency beacons," a representative associated with the mission commented.

The nine-person crew are from the United States, Cuba, France, and Poland. Mexico said it has established contact with coast guard agencies from the involved countries along with their embassy officials.

"Our team is collaborating completely with the relevant authorities and continue to be hopeful in the capability of the sailors to safely arrive in Havana," the statement continued.

Previous Relief Mission

Previously that week, the Cuban authorities warmly welcomed and greeted with fanfare a different ship that had delivered 14 tons of humanitarian aid to the country.

That ship, called "a modern Granma" in reference to the boat in which the revolutionary leader came back to Cuba to begin the revolution in the mid-20th century, delivered solar equipment, drugs, infant formula, bicycles and provisions.
