While Michel Illouz slowly made his way through the throngs beneath the tall evergreens and date palms at the graveyard in Ra'anana, a community located about 21 km north of Tel Aviv, he thanked people to numerous participants as he could.

He had extended an welcoming message to the local community to accompany his loved ones in mourning his twenty-six-year-old son, Guy, whose remains had been repatriated from Gaza on Monday.

Massive Turnout

Numerous people answered the request. They occupied the avenues, processed behind the coffin transport carrying his body, and gathered at the memorial grounds in such significant numbers that the original plan to conduct the service indoors had to be discarded.

As an alternative, the gathering was conducted outside, with the background of the melody of avian melodies.

Significant Milestone

This represented the first funeral since the final two dozen captives came back from Gaza, along with multiple remains. A further more than twenty of the deceased hostages are still unaccounted for, but at minimum this loved ones now had a designated location to mourn and honor their son, according to friends.

But now that Guy was ultimately back with them, they needed "people around them again."

"This brings me comfort that you joined us," expressed Michel. "Your presence is deeply appreciated."

Dad's Eulogy

He turned to his son. "My Guy-shuk," he said, using a term of endearment, "it's difficult for me to conceive the time to come without you. They took you from me – they ended your life – they stole my being and took my sense of self and killed my inner being and emotional core."

"I feel empty inside since that senseless shooting by those malicious militants when they caught you and instructed you to turn around, and then simply fired two needless bullets into your posterior."

Last Farewell

"So I found myself this morning, driving to Abu Kabir medical examiner's office to confirm your identity and part ways. They took off the covering, and the initial sight I saw was that characteristic grin, that positive outlook, that peaceful presence and nobility that so exemplified you."

"I reached out, tried to sense your aroma, tenderly touched all areas in your body. I looked at you, I was by myself with you, and yes, I felt with absolute certainty that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've returned to us. You've rejoined your loved ones' arms, to all your companions, and to the countless people whose emotions your experience touched."

Familial Courage

During the initial segment of the memorial, Illouz had concentrated completely on supporting his younger children. He stroked the hair of his girls, embraced his boy, showed affection and composed himself for them. But then his feelings emerged.

Cherished Memories

"I will yearn for so much journeying together through this nation, experiencing your company, hearing your music, resting on elevated terrain and activating the stove to make coffee the way only you mastered – 'Papa, do you see the coffee bubbles? You have to heat it slowly, let the bubbles form, then simmer it additionally. Stir the coffee with rotating movements' – and then your expression while enjoying the drink and your pleasure in every particular taste."

"Before I left Abu Kabir today, I kept my promise. I gazed upon you, absorbed your presence one last time, and yes, I planted a kiss on the brow. I was managed to observe your beauty even in the situation in which you came back."

"Beloved child, I love you so much, I cherish you. I will long for you every moment and tiny segment of my time. Be at ease, my beloved son, rest after a passage of multiple seasons through unfamiliar realms to us. I care for you, my beloved son, my treasured initial offspring."
