The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
