The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
