Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year following starting derogatory chants targeting their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds finished by mutual consent in August.
Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Past History Involving the Striker & the Manager
Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
