Heavy Downpours Aggravate Situation for Displaced Gazans, Officials Warn
Intense storms over the recent period have compounded the precarious circumstances of the hundreds of thousands of uprooted civilians in the Gaza Strip, according to humanitarian agencies.
"Awful" Weather Creates Grave Risks
A representative described the recent storm as "awful", with rain so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.
"Last night was exceptionally horrendous for the families. The downpours were so intense... And the gales were so forceful," stated the official.
There is extreme anxiety that young ones living in temporary structures in soaked garments will contract hypothermia and various ailments.
Casualties and Widespread Destruction
The health ministry have confirmed that one baby has passed away from the cold and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in roof cave-ins triggered by the harsh conditions.
Other reports suggest a greater death toll. Spokespeople stated that multiple structures had totally fallen and many others had sustained partial collapse.

Relief Distribution Seen as Insufficient
Organizations have stepped up shipments of tarpaulins, blankets and garments since the halt in hostilities commenced, but they emphasize there is remains not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are striving constantly to bring in that assistance and to hand it out, but the scale of the requirements is so vast that we continue to see thousands of families and minors who are genuinely suffering every night," warned one spokesperson.
Ongoing Concerns and Ceasefire Provisions
The next stage of the ceasefire includes arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of military forces, and other conditions.
Aid bodies have stressed the necessity for "greater and continuous relief to respond to immediate and long-term requirements."
The war was sparked by an attack in October 2023. Subsequent campaigns have caused a high number of lives lost in the region, according to health ministry reports.
