Previous national team leader Lewis Moody has been supported to confront motor neurone disease with "every ounce of his strength" by former team-mate and teammate from the victorious squad Will Greenwood.
Lewis Moody, aged 47, discovered he was diagnosed with the degenerative, muscle-wasting condition two weeks ago and has revealed to a morning news program that he is having trouble processing the implications of his diagnosis.
Sports icon Rob Burrow and Scotland and British and Irish Lions great Doddie Weir have both died from the disease in recent years.
"He's an incredible person that we cherish deeply," Will Greenwood, who teamed up with Moody for both England and Leicester, stated during BBC Radio 5 Live.
"It is just tragic news, because he is a truly good person. And I know there is no logic in these matters - life's unpredictable nature - but you support the worthy individuals."
"He possesses no malice, he is the most positive person you can hope to find... and then he had a talent during games to completely change and be the most ferocious competitor."

The two players collaborated with both Leicester and England
Andrea Pinchen, Sweeney's counterpart at the club where Moody played extensively, winning seven English titles and continental honors over a decade and a half, also paid tribute to Moody as both an individual and an athlete.
"The figures, trophies and awards demonstrate the exceptional athlete Lewis was, but that is only half the story," said Pinchen.
"Suddenly he could be showing off with the World Cup trophy and the following Friday he'd be in the ticket office where I worked, taking calls from fans if we were exceptionally occupied and helping sell tickets."
