A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
